A texture gun and hopper setup like the PC501 is beneficial for easily covering large surface areas such as drywall. Not only does it give you a nice textured effect, but it efficiently hides imperfections, nails, and tape lines in a single application. This alone can save you a ton of time.
On the downside, hoppers like this are a small unwieldy. When they're full of drywall it can be very heavy-this is not a one particular-handed operation. On this model, the hopper handle is bolted on at the best, which tends to make it a small uncomfortable to hold over extended periods of time. The gun works with what the manufacturer refers to as a "four-finger grip" in other words, you have to exert some pressure to make it work. (If you are worried about the comfort and ease of operation, you may want to shell out a little a great deal more cash for Kraft's Super-Pro process, which is a little less difficult to operate.)
Note that the hopper is angled, which enables you to tilt the whole factor upward so you can spray ceilings. This is a nice feature, and it will save you a lot of headache attempting to drywall ceilings by hand.
